CONCEPT AND COMPOSITION WITH Jack Alterman and Mary Whyte
A break-through workshop for 10 painters and 10 photographers
Your next award winning works are just an idea away.
Join photographer Jack Alterman and painter Mary Whyte for a day long workshop exploring your hidden creative potential. Through hands on exercises and informative discussions, in this class you will garner valuable techniques from two professionals on how to take your work to the next level. Learn insider tips on how to break away from unoriginal works and learn to create your own truly signature paintings and/or photographs.
We will devote the morning session to concept, what it is, and why every work must have it. Learn the endless possibilities that exist, and how, as an artist you can tap into them. Through examples of the great masters as well as their own work, Alterman and Whyte will illustrate how every successful work begins, and how each artist can develop his or her own unique perspective in a way that is both engaging and memorable.
The afternoon session will explore composition, how it drives the meaning and feeling of a work, and how it can make or break a painting or photograph regardless of the artist’s style or technique. Whyte and Alterman will share professional tips on how to use better composition, and how to use unusual angles and perspectives to grab the viewer’s attention. Students will spend the remainder of the day sketching or photographing on location, with the results shared in a group critique, followed by discussions on how each individual can further his or her growth and recognition as an artist.
